Description
A small evergreen tree of about 4.5 metres, with stiff spined, smooth oval leaves, that range in shades of green. Small white flowers, produce the dark green fruits (about half the size of lemons). This is the desired colour for harvesting, rather than the yellow/green when ripe.
The cold pressing method is by using the small whole unripe fruits of the West Indian Lime. This method is desired in perfumery work, for its persistence and fresh citrus notes. * Lime C/P essential oil contains naturally occurring bergaptens or furo/furano-coumarins, which are known to cause skin phototoxicity. This means that skin can discolour when exposed to direct sunlight, and in some cases cause burning. *
