Juniper is a herb of protection and purification. It is burned as incense and used to ritually ?sweep? an area in preparation for a ritual.
Not an overly tall tree, but a slow growing evergreen shrub tree of about 10 metres tall, grown in the wild, with narrow bluish-green needles. Flowers and round green berries in their first year, turning black in the second and third years. Which require 3 growing seasons to fully mature.
It is a native to northern Europe, it is now commonly found in the dry areas of Europe, America and Asia. As the essential oil is produced from most parts of the plant including leaves and branches, the berries yield the highest quality essential oil. The berries come from the dried fruit of the female cone which is collected for distillation.
This particular variety grows wild in the Himalayan region and is considered a slightly sweeter option. Obviously, due to different geographical locations and weather conditions, the various constituents will be slightly somewhat different.
