Description

The Canelo tree (Winter’s Bark or Drimys Winteri) is sacred to the Mapuche Indians, a native people of South America. It is largely prevalent in the Patagonia region. Traditionally, Canelo represented wisdom, peace and healing and most importantly it served as a union between heaven and earth. By burning its bark, the Mapuche Shamans paid homage to Canelo’s sacred purifying and healing elements. Please note: canelo translates to cinnamon, however the tree is not the traditional cinnamon spice. Historically, it was given this name after Sir Francis Drake’s surgeon used it to overcome scurvy onboard expedition ships. When the bark is stripped and dried it easily rolls into quills that look like traditional cinnamon. It’s bark also has a very similar spicy scent, reminiscent of the original spice, whilst its flowers resemble jasmine and also have a similarly sweet scent.

UMO Recolector’s incense honours these traditions by only using sustainably sourced raw materials, which are hand-moulded into generous, thick, long burning incense wands. UMO has respectfully recaptured the essence of Patagonia’s ancient scents. The incense is completely natural, all ingredients are ground down and pounded into a raw paste that is then rolled into incense and sun-dried.

This is not mass-produced incense. UMO is a small operation located in Chile, guided by an ethos of kindness, extending to both people and the environment. They practice fair trade, use 100% recyclable packaging, and collaborate closely with local communities to support ongoing growth and development.

The earthy-toned packaging is reminicent of the beautiful Canelo that is used as a foundation for their incense. It is a triangular prism, which contains 10 incense wands (approx 50gms). Each wand is approximately 10cm long and has a burn time of 1 hour ++.

UMO enhances the authentic experience with a handcrafted ceramic (kiln-fired) incense bowl, accompanied by a pouch of fine volcanic soil. Simply pour the soil into the bowl to create the perfect setting for their exquisite incense wands.
